The Origin Story

In December 1891, a Canadian physical education instructor named Dr. James Naismith was tasked with inventing an indoor winter activity for restless students at the YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts. He wrote 13 basic rules, grabbed a soccer ball, and nailed two peach baskets to an elevated track.

Basketball was born.
